Come and explore the council chamber and meeting rooms, the old Town Hall Keeper’s living quarters and the eerie basement cells.

Visitors both young and old can learn more about the building’s fascinating exterior with a specially commissioned historical trail, created by local arts company The Wild Tribe, available on the day from the Mayor’s Parlour.

Meanwhile, historical re-enactors from ‘The Mystery Tours’ will bring characters from Northampton’s past to life, including philanthropist Lady Wantage and the peasant poet John Clare.

There will also be an opportunity to explore the Mayor’s corridor, which is home to a historic timeline of Mayoral portraits, and see the Mayor’s Parlour, where the Mayor of Northampton and past Mayors will welcome visitors throughout the day.

You can even try on the Mayoral robes be a ‘Mayor for a Minute,’ while learning about the civic traditions of Northampton’s rich Mayoral heritage, which dates back to the 13th century.

A specially commissioned film, created by local residents with the Northampton Film Festival and the town council, to celebrate the re-opening of Northampton’s Market Square and explore pivotal moments in its history, will also be screened in the grandeur of the Great Hall.

And a project by students of Northampton College, showcasing Northampton’s fantastic heritage, will be on display in the Council Chamber.
